Saffron types
Negin: This is the best kind of saffron that has the best quality and the highest colouring power. In order to collect Negin saffron, farmers separate the red and large stigmas that the lower parts of their strands are connected together. There is no yellow part or cream in this type of saffron. In the classification of Negin saffron, if the much taller stigmas are collected which the tips of them are bulkier and thicker, this type of saffron is called super Negin that is the most expensive and the finest kind of saffron. In general, the colouring power of Negin saffron is between 230 and 270 degrees.
Sargol: In the classification of saffron types, after Negin, Sargol is the best type of saffron which has the highest colouring power. Farmers gather the red and bulky stigmas separated from each other and the lowest parts of them not attached together and place them in a category which is called the Sargol saffron. Similar to Negin, Sargol saffron has no yellow part or cream but the only difference between them relies on the size of the stigmas. Sargol saffron is about 3 to 4 millimetres shorter than Negin saffron. The colouring power of Sargol saffron is between 210 and 230.
The saffron experts divided the Sargol saffron in two classifications, super premium Sargol and premium Sargol based on the thickness, length, flaccidity and frangibility.
Poushal: The other type of saffron is called poushal, in order to collect this type of saffron, about 1 to 4 millimetres cream is remained at the lowest part of the saffron threads which are connected together. The red, bulky stigmas and tall strands connected together with cream or yellow parts are considered as the characteristics of Poushal saffron. It is the finest type of saffron available in the market which has the remarkable colouring power that is about190 degrees. Due to completed part of saffron strands in this type, the red stigma to yellow part, the authenticity and validity of it are confirmed and there is no fraud in it. This is the reason why people prefer to buy Poushal saffron.
Dasteh: The first product of saffron is Dasteh which is the most common method of trading among farmers and producers. This type of saffron displays the completed threads of saffron from the red stigma to white root. The Poushal saffron or daughter screwed saffron is the natural saffron available in the marker because no change can be seen in it. For collecting this type of saffron, the saffron stigmas associated with cream are collected together to form a cluster and finally a strand is used to wrap the cluster from the middle part of I and is dried without any change in the cluster. Dasteh or daughter screwed is used to collect Negin, Poushal and Sargol saffron.
